Aiming to deepen trade ties, Punjab engages Hong Kong partners in a virtual dialogue
LAHORE, Dec 13 — Provincial Industries and Commerce Minister Chaudhry Shafay Hussain led a remote meeting with Vian Cheung, Asia Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). The discussion centered on strengthening collaboration in trade and investment between Punjab and Hong Kong, as announced by the Industries Department on Saturday.
Both sides expressed a commitment to closer cooperation between the Punjab Industries & Commerce Department and HKTDC, outlining plans to expand joint efforts in trade and investment opportunities.
During the session, Cheung revealed that Hong Kong will host the Gems & Jewellery Fair and the Electronics Fair in March and April next year, respectively. She invited Punjab’s manufacturers and traders to participate in both events, emphasizing their potential to accelerate international commerce. A Pakistan Pavilion was proposed for display at each fair to highlight local industries.
Chaudhry Shafay welcomed these developments, noting their strong potential to boost export activity. He confirmed that a Punjab delegation of industrialists and traders would participate in the fairs to broaden their access to global markets.
Additionally, the minister announced the creation of a Hong Kong Desk within the Punjab Department of Industries & Commerce, designed to streamline trade and investment flows between the two regions. Wahab Tariq Butt, Executive Member of the Punjab Board of Investment and the head of the Hong Kong Desk, attended the meeting alongside other participants.
