Apple's AI Health Coach: A Step Too Far, or a Missed Opportunity?
Apple's ambitious AI health project has reportedly been scaled back, leaving many wondering about the future of AI-powered healthcare.
Apple's plans for an AI-driven health assistant, capable of analyzing your health data and offering personalized guidance, have taken a surprising turn. According to Bloomberg, the project has been significantly reduced, with only select features making their way into the Health app over time. But here's where it gets controversial: some believe Apple's decision to scale back could be a missed chance to revolutionize healthcare.
Before the cutback, Apple was rumored to be launching this AI health coach as part of a new Health+ subscription. The idea was to combine data from Apple devices like the Watch and iPhone with lab reports, offering a comprehensive health tracking and guidance system. For instance, if your device detected potential heart issues, the AI coach would provide a video explaining the risks and offer tailored diet and exercise plans.
However, Apple's services chief Eddy Cue, who took control of the health and fitness team last year, wasn't convinced. Sources say he believed competitors like Oura and Whoop already offered superior features through their iOS apps. As a result, the AI doctor project, codenamed Mulberry, was put on the back burner.
Despite this, Apple isn't completely abandoning the idea of AI-powered health advice. Rumors suggest the company is developing a Siri chatbot that could tap into your Health app data to respond to health queries. With Siri's long-awaited ability to draw context from other apps expected to arrive soon, Apple might still find a way to integrate AI into your health experience.
So, is Apple's decision to scale back a wise move, or a missed opportunity to innovate in healthcare? What are your thoughts on AI-powered health assistants? Share your opinions in the comments!
